Possible visa-free regime between Russia and Japan
According to the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, a visa-free regime can be established between Russia and Japan, firstly for Sakhalin and Hokkaido residents.
“We have attracted the attention of our colleagues to the fact that in recent years Russia has offered many initiatives aimed at either liberalizing the travel regime for a number of categories of citizens such as businessmen, tourists, participants of sports and cultural exchanges, or introducing a visa-free regime. This is our global goal”, S. Lavrov said at the press approach after the talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono.
“We believe that there are no reasons stopping Russia and Japan from introducing a visa-free regime starting, for example, with a visa-free travel for residents of Sakhalin and Hokkaido,” the Russian Foreign Minister added.
