Neues Gesetz zur Vereinfachung des Einbürgerungsprozesses in Russland
President of Russia V. Putin signed a law simplifying the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship. Some foreign citizens will be able to become Russian in a simplified manner.
The law excludes condition to become citizens of the country without giving up existing citizenship.
In accordance with the new law, applicants for citizenship of the Russian Federation from the following list of candidates will not need to stay in Russia for at least three years and confirm the existence of a legal source of livelihood.
These requirements are also excluded from the following list of citizenship candidates:
- Foreigners married to citizens of the Russian Federation living in Russia and having common children.
- Foreigners, one of whose parents has Russian citizenship & lives in Russia.
- Adult stateless persons, if they had USSR citizenship, living in the former Union republics without obtaining citizenship there.
The simplified procedure for obtaining citizenship will now be extended to citizens of Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan with a valid residence permit, but without observing the terms of residence.
Also, from 3 years to 1 year the requirement for the necessary terms of work in the Russian Federation is reduced for graduates — foreign citizens who received education after July 1, 2002 in educational institutions or scientific organizations of the Russian Federation.
The law will enter into force 90 days after its official publication.
