The Ministry of Economic Development has proposed to maintain the second citizenship obtaining the passport of the Russian Federation. The accompanying documents, that were prepared for the draft of the federal budget for 2020–2022, say that in the future foreign citizens will not have to renounce the citizenship of another country to acquire the Russian citizenship. As stressed, the government has already approved these changes. These measures are aimed at increasing the attractiveness of the Russian passport.

“Actually, the realization of migration policy will eliminate the main requirement to renounce other citizenship for foreign citizens who accept the Russian citizenship,” says the document prepared by the Ministry of Economic Development.

It should be emphasized that these changes will affect foreign qualified specialists coming to work in Russia.

According to experts, because of the facilitation of requirements for foreign specialists and their family members, their number in Russia will increase by 2024.

At the moment, the main concept of the government's migration policy is to simplify the conditions for acquiring Russian citizenship.

In the future, foreigners who have studied at Russian universities will be able to obtain easily temporary admission and residence permit.
