According to the press secretary of the Russian Union of Travel Industry Irina Tyurina, the first Russian visa center allowing Japanese tourists to avoid long queues when applying for a Russian visa, has been opened in Tokyo.
“A new comfortable and conveniently located office for receiving documents will significantly reduce the waiting time for an appointment,” I. Tyurina said. Previously the visa department of the Russian consulate in Tokyo could receive only 50 people a day, which caused long queues.
“The visa center will really make life easier for both the consulate and tourists. An additional visa fee of 4.5 thousand yen which is equivalent to about $ 42, should be paid,” the press secretary reported.
According to statistics, Japanese citizens actively visit Russia in particular St. Petersburg, Moscow, Vladivostok, Irkutsk and Khabarovsk. As a rule, tourists from Japan travel for 3–7 days, almost 80% of bookings include Japanese-speaking guides, excursions and transfers. Requests are received on different budgets, mainly with accommodation in 3–4★ hotels. The peak time of visiting Russia falls on a warm season from April to September.
According to the Border Service of the FSB of the Russian Federation, 119 thousand Japanese citizens visited Russia in 2018, and the tourist flow is still growing nowadays.
