According to the Russian Embassy in Riga, on October 9, during the exchange of views on the Russia–EU agreement on the simplified procedure for issuing visas, Russia and Latvia have discussed ways to provide consular assistance and have exchanged statistics on the issuance of visas and permits for border traffic.

As noted, Russia and Latvia discussed the realization of the agreement on the facilitation of travel of borderland residents and the pilot project of e-visas, defined ways to further cooperation.

The Deputy Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Utkin and the Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yapina spoke about the implementation of the bilateral intergovernmental agreement on the facilitation of travel of residents of border areas and discussed ways to provide consular assistance.

As pointed, during the meeting the Russian part presented the project on introduction of e-visas in some regions of the Russian Federation.

We would like to remind you that on December 16, amendments to the agreement between Russia and Latvia on facilitation of mutual trips of borderland residents came into force.

At the moment, residents of border areas can issue permits for local border traffic without presenting a health insurance policy.

It is necessary to stress that the Russian side will no longer put stamps on border crossing in the documents of the residents.

According to the Russian Embassy, the events organized by state institutions will be the basis for obtaining permission for local border trips.
