Eisenbahnverbindung zwischen St. Petersburg und Vilnius wird unterbrochen

Wir entschuldigen uns, nur die englische Version ist verfügbar.

Starting from June 1, 2015 the direct railway communication between St. Petersburg and Vilnius will be stopped. The reason of this decision of the national company “Lithuanian Railways” was the decrease in flow of passengers for more than a third that is up to 42 million passengers.

According to the representative of the company Vidmantas Gudas, at the moment this direction is unprofitable for the company. But at the same time it is not planned to stop train movements from Vilnius to Moscow, although the reduction of demand in this direction was also 30%.

Lithuania is not the only country that notes the decrease of demand for passenger trains. So, in January Estonia reported about the reduction of runs to St. Petersburg. Though the trips between St. Petersburg and Tallinn were not completely stopped, their number reduced from seven to two per week. The decrease of need is explained by the carrier by the difficult economic and political situation in Russia

Currently among international routes from St. Petersburg remain trains to Helsinki, Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Tallinn and Warsaw.
