Einführung einer neuen Art von Einreisevisum in Russland

According to the information posted on the Russian government’s official website, the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a resolution on the introduction of a new type of entry visa in Russia.

As stated in the resolution, the “ordinary visa” category will include one new visa type – an ordinary single-entry visa to enter Russia for obtaining a temporary residence permit. This visa will be valid for up to 4 months and will be issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if there is a decision of the local department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs on temporary residence in the country. Such a visa will also be available for stateless persons holding a temporary residence permit in Russia while the validity period of the issued visa will be similar to the permit’s validity.

The need to introduce a visa for obtaining a temporary residence permit is explained by the fact that certain provisions and articles of the law “Regarding Procedures for Entry into the Russian Federation and Exit from the Russian Federation” are not in conformity with the main law. According to them, foreign citizens can hold administratively liable upon the expiry of the visa even if they have a valid temporary residence permit. At the moment, the government made the necessary changes to the relevant law in order to introduce a new type of visa.
