Russia and Belarus have completed work on an agreement on mutual recognition of visas. It is supposed that it should ensure the free entry of foreign citizens during the World Cup in Russia this year.

It should be recalled that the preparation of the agreement on the recognition of visas was discussed by representatives of the two countries on April 18–19 in Moscow during the meeting of the interdepartmental working group on the development of recommendations on the coordination of migration policy.

“The technical work is completed, generally, the internal coordination has passed. I do not see any special obstacles. The question is absolutely working, so I think the decision will be taken,” — said Shunevich, head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.

According to him, it is a cut version of the draft agreement that will act during the World Cup 2018.

Earlier, the head of the department for citizenship and migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus Alexei Begun said that Belarus offers two options for temporary agreements to ensure a pass to the Russian Federation during the World Cup 2018 through the territory of the republic.

“I want to say that we have already reached the home stretch. The Russian side will finalize the draft agreement until next week and will send it, and we will hold a videoconference until the end of May to discuss all aspects of the agreement,” Begun said.

It will be recalled that Belarus and Russia are working on an agreement on mutual recognition of visas. At the end of 2017 in Minsk, they said that the project is in a high degree of readiness, two questions remain unresolved that concern a visa-free stay.
