The Russian Economy Ministry is planning to relaunch the e-visa to make traveling to Russia more available and attractive to foreigners. Economic Development Minister Maksim Reshetnikov announced at meeting with the tourism industry.

Reshetnikov added that a “Tourist Card” will be created, with which foreigners will be able to pay by bank transfers. To increase tourist flow it is necessary to create “Tourist Card”.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Evgeny Ivanov announced the readiness of unified e-visa system for foreigners on December 15. Relaunch will be discussed by the Russian government in 2023.

The law on e-visa for foreigners was adopted in 2020. A short-term e-visa was supposed to start operating in Russia from January 1, 2021. However, due to COVID-19, the issuance of unified electronic visas was suspended. The unified electronic visa is currently single-entry. Its validity period is 60 days from the date of registration while the foreign citizen is permitted to stay in Russia for no more than 16 days from the date of entry.
