The rules of obtaining visas to Crimea will be simplified for foreigners
The procedure of obtaining visas for travel to Crimea can be simplified for foreign citizens – announced the Deputy Russian Minister of Crimea Andrey Sokolov. However, experts believe that this measure aimed to attract foreign tourists to Crimea won’t be rewarding soon as at the present moment foreigners are not interested in travelling to the region.
Starting from January 1, 2015 the regime of the free economic zone was introduced in Crimea and Sevastopol. The new law provides for the simplification of the visa regime for investors, businessmen and representatives of organizations. Now the matter concerns the simplification of the visa regime for tourists. In addition, the authorities of the peninsula plan to appeal to the federal authorities asking for the possibility of issuing visas to foreign visitors for free.
According to the representatives of the Crimea tourist industry, it will be better to organize the simplified visa issuing procedure at the airport of Simferopol. This will allow covering foreigners coming on domestic and charter flights. Proposals concerning the procedure of the visa regime simplification have already been submitted to the committee of the State Council and the Government of the Republic of Crimea.
As noted Andrey Sokolov, “According to preliminary applications, visa for tourist groups may be issued for citizens upon their arrival at the airport of Simferopol or seaports. This rule is already enshrined in the law on free economic zone.”
Last year the Russian government began working on simplification of the visa regime for foreigners traveling on transit flights. Under the new rules foreign transit passengers would be able to stay in Russia without a visa for 72 hours. However, in this May the work on the bill has been stopped for an indefinite period because of the ambiguous foreign policy situation.
