The UK Embassy to be opened in Kaliningrad during the 2018 World Cup
The Consul General of Great Britain in St. Petersburg Sangita Ahuja reported at a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the regional government Alexander Rolbinov about plans to set up a mobile British Embassy in Kaliningrad at the time of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. It is supposed to assist the English fans in their comfortable stay in the region and create a positive image of the Kaliningrad region.
“The match in Kaliningrad (England — Belgium) is the most expected game for English fans at the moment. They are interested in practical information — signs in English, transport, hotel bookings. We want to help in the promotion of Kaliningrad,” said Sangita Ahuja.
According to A. Rolbinov, active work is being done now to prepare the region for the upcoming sporting event. “We have launched several programs for teaching foreign languages, primarily for medical personnel and policemen, and we also have an information and tourist centre whose employees speak foreign languages. By summer we will launch a special call centre where tourists can call and get the required information,” announced the Deputy Prime Minister. In addition, a stadium designed for 35 thousand spectators is being built on the Oktyabrsky Island.
