The Russian Embassy in the U.S. to close its Consular Division

The Russian Embassy in the United States decided to close its Consular Division for visitors starting from 16 March due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“Starting from March 16, 2020 the Consular Division of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the U.S. is temporarily closed for visitors due to worsening sanitary-epidemic situation with the coronavirus COVID-19”, the embassy announced.

They advised applicants to apply for visas at the Russian Visa Center. The Embassy advised also to contact in case of emergency by phone +1 202 365 2124.

The government emphasizes that these measures are temporary.

“These measures are justified by special circumstances caused by the need to protect the health of visitors and are temporary. After resuming work of Consular Division of the Embassy in the regular mode, the reception of citizens who have made an appointment by March 16, 2020 will be carried out in priority order”, the government announced.

On December, Chinese authorities announced an outbreak of pneumonia in Wuhan. The disease was given the official name COVID-19.
