Spain to introduce vaccination passports for tourists
The Spanish government introduces a vaccination passport as one of the first countries. Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism of Spain Reyes Maroto stressed that this measure is needed to attract tourists to the country. They plan to revive summer tourism.
Reyes Maroto mentioned about the commission to evaluate the test of vaccination passports. Technological tools must be ready before opening borders.
The Spanish authorities noted that tourism is a key industry in Spain, which directly accounts for 12.4 percent of the country's GDP. Officials speculated that country would face stiff competition for vaccinated tourists. Cyprus and Greece are already ready to open their borders to vaccinated tourists.
Vaccinations and obtaining passports in Spain are progressing poorly.
The European Commission will offer vaccination certificates at the end of March. The Spanish government expects to be one of the first countries to start this system.
