Russia called terms for easing visa restrictions with the UK
According to Russian ambassador Andrei Kelin, Russia is ready to discuss with the UK easing visa restrictions for all categories of citizens, if London is ready for this.
“Easing visa restrictions is a good idea, but in this matter we can act only on the basis of reciprocity... If willingness is shown, we will be very interested in starting a dialogue on easing visa restrictions for all categories of citizens”, said Andrey Kelin.
There is an agreement on easing visa restrictions between Russia and the European Union. It includes visa-free travel for diplomats, as well as easing visa restrictions for certain categories of citizens, such as students, scientists, pupils and journalists.
According to the Russian ambassador, this agreement almost turned into an agreement to further facilitate travel, to which Russia agreed.
Russia has opened access to the use of electronic visas to enter Kaliningrad and the Far East to almost all EU countries.
However, nowadays the UK is not going to agree easing visa restrictions.
In 2019 the UK did not issue visas to several Russian journalists. It was about some correspondents who were sent to work in the UK. The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed this information.
This situation was called a violation of the rights of media workers related to the performance of their direct duties.
