Russia and the United States halved the visa fee
Russia and the United States have agreed to mutually reduce application fees for all types of entry visas.
“An agreement has been reached with the US to restore starting on March 4 the application fee of $160 for all types of visas issued in accordance with the 2011 bilateral agreement easing visa restrictions,” the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry says. According to the US diplomatic mission, additional fees for issuing visas will not be charged.
This structure of the visa fee is based on the principle of reciprocity and provides equal cost of business and tourist visas to citizens of both countries. In addition, both sides agreed on the preferential issuance of three-year multiple-entry visas.
According to the experts, this measure will help to boost business, humanitarian, cultural and tourism ties between the two countries’ people and will be a good example of mutually beneficial cooperation.
It is worth recalling that since January 1, 2019, a three-year multiple-entry visa to the United States has risen in price for Russians from $160 to $303 which was explained by the increase in the consular fee for Russian visas for US citizens. As stated American diplomats, a reduction in the visa cost is possible only on a reciprocal basis.
According to the FSB Border Service, 245.5 thousand Russians visited the United States in 2018, which is 8.8% less than a year earlier. Last year, 227,000 tourists came to the Russian Federation from the USA.
