Introduction of unified electronic visa in Russia

From January 1, 2021 foreigners will be able to apply for unified e-visa to enter Russia. The Russian government has approved list of countries whose citizens need to apply for unified e-visa.

E-visa is a single-entry visa and with this visa foreigner can enter “as a tourist, with a guest or business visit, as well as to participate in scientific, cultural, socio-political, economic and sports events”.

Website of the Government of the Russian Federation states that this list includes 52 states, whose citizens were allowed to enter Russia with e-visa within pilot project. This project started in 2017 and had number of restrictions.

Processing time for single e-visa is no more four calendar days. Consular fee will cost 40 dollars; e-visa is free of charge for children up to 6 years old.

Unified e-visa is valid for sixty days from date of obtaining according to which foreign citizen can stay in Russia for up to sixteen days from date of entry. Foreigner has right to travel within Russia having this visa and cross borders through any checkpoint.
