Introduction of single-entry e-visa in Russia

The Government of Russia has brought to the State Duma the bill on introduction of electronic visa for foreign citizens in Russia from January 1, 2021. According to the bill, an electronic visa is defined as an independent category of visa on an equal basis with official, diplomatic, ordinary, transit and temporary residence visa.

β€œThe bill aims to introduce a unique visa of single-entry for short-term stay of foreign citizens in Russia with tourist, business, private and humanitarian purposes from January 1, 2021,” β€” the government said.

It is necessary to emphasize that the electronic visa will be given as a single entry visa for up to 60 calendar days with the period of stay in Russia up to 16 days for foreign citizens.

According to the project, the period of electronic visa issuance will be no more than four calendar days from the date of filing of the application by a foreign citizen. At the same time, it should be noted that the filing of the application will be opened on a special website.

As stressed, the government will prepare the list of countries whose citizens will be eligible for electronic visas.

It should be recalled that now Russia is one of the countries with the most tight visa requirements. It is expected that electronic visas will promote tourism in Russia and will attract foreigners from different countries.
