Introduction of e-visas in the Kaliningrad region from July 1, 2019
According to the statement of the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kolokoltsev, electronic visas will be introduced on the territory of the Kaliningrad region from July 1, 2019.
At this moment, a work to simplify the entry procedure for foreign tourists is under way in Russia. Taking into account the positive experience of using electronic visas in the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District, a similar mechanism will be implemented in the Kaliningrad region from July 1. The list of countries whose citizens will be able to use e-visas is now at the stage of formation and will later be approved by the Government of the Russian Federation.
According to Deputy Foreign Minister Evgeny Ivanov, it is planned to charge a small fee for issuing electronic visas in order to prevent the appearance of fake visa forms that interfere with the work of the system.
The introduction of electronic visas can cause migration, criminogenic and other risks which are difficult to calculate, so the process will be carried out in stages. According to E. Ivanov, no country similar in size and development level to Russia has yet turned to the full implementation of the electronic visa system at the moment.
