Rusia está lista para albergar el Campeonato Mundial de Patinaje Artístico
On Wednesday, March 16, the Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko sent a letter to Ottavio Cinquanta the President of the International Skating Union (ISU) saying that Russia is ready to host the world figure skating championship in Moscow.
Earlier, the championship was planned in Tokyo from 21 to 27 March, but due to the devastating earthquake and tsunami, it will likely be moved to another country, and the time frames to April or May, informs “R-Sport”.
As an alternative place for the championship Lausanne, Vancouver and Taipei are already discussed.
According to Deputy Sports Minister Yuri Nagornyj, today Russia disposes sufficient conditions to host the world championship at a decent level.
“The main palace for the competition will be “Megasport”. It has a main hall for 14 thousand spectators, a training rink, all the necessary infrastructure. It hosts an annual Grand Prix figure skating, the athletes know it. In the area of reach is CSKA Sport Palace, where the training process can be organized”, – explained the Deputy Minister.
Also Nagornyj emphasized that a large number of hotels is situated next to the rink, and the participants of the championship will not have to experience difficulties with transport.
However, some experts raised concerns about a possible revaluation of opportunities in Moscow.
Thus, the general director of the national figure skating federation Valentin Pisarev recalled that the preparation of the previous championship of such level in 2005 in Russia took two years.
