Fingerprinting to be introduced at the Russian border crossing points

According to the head of the General Administration for Migration Issues of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russian Federation Olga Kirillova, the Ministry plans to introduce a mandatory fingerprinting procedure for all foreign citizens arriving to the Russian Federation. Foreigners will be fingerprinted at border crossing points or in the territory of the country upon their arrival.

β€œAt present, the Ministry of Internal Affairs together with the interested federal executive bodies is considering the issue of further improvement of the legislation regarding the mandatory fingerprinting of foreign citizens and stateless persons. Taking into account both domestic and international experience, we are considering several possible mechanisms of this work such as the dactylography at border crossing points or directly in the territory of the country upon arrival of foreign citizen,” Olga Kirillova explained.

Currently, the fingerprinting procedure is mandatory for persons applying for recognition or admission to the Russian citizenship, foreign citizens arrived in the country in search of asylum, as well as foreign specialists applying for a work permit, a patent or a temporary residence permit.
