The magazine Forbes has made a list of the most popular restaurants of Russian cuisine.
The first place took the Russian Samovar – the restaurant, located in New York. This house was opened in 1986 and, according to the publication, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Joseph Brodsky took part in its creation, and Roman Kaplan is the owner.
The walls of the restaurant are still decorated with autographs of Dovlatov, Brodsky, Akhmadulina and Iskander, and the restaurant serves as a meeting place for intellectuals. The average restaurant bill is $ 100.
The second place took Kolobok located in Mexico. If you believe the guidebooks, the restaurant looks like any of the local cafes, but the kitchen is truly Russian – up to brown bread and caviar. The average restaurant bill is $ 10.
The third-ranked restaurant is KGB located in Stockholm. This is a bar-restaurant decorated in Soviet-style with newspapers and Russian dolls, with borscht and traditional pancakes. The average restaurant bill is $ 70.
The fourth place is taken by Balalaika in Hong Kong, the fifth by La Cantine Russe in Paris, the sixth by Russkiy Mir located in Milan, the seventh by El Cosaco in Madrid, the eighth by Baikal, which is located in Tokyo, and the ninth by Nikita's in London.
As the publication notes, the names of Russian restaurants around the world are not original in general, they are named in style like Kalinka, Samovar, or Rasputin. However, the national they understand Russian cuisine in very different ways, for example, in France Russian national spirit is expressed by Gzhel tableware, while in Japan by a figure of Cheburashka.
