El viaje de Petersburgo a Moscú ahora dura algo más de tres horas

On Thursday, December 17, a high-speed train “Sapsan” made his first trip on a route Moscow – St. Petersburg. Passenger trip departed from the Leningrad station at 19:00. Tickets were sold on it yet for the day. From Friday trips will become regular. Six trains will go to “mirrorlike” schedule. This means that the same waggonage will exit at the same time from St. Petersburg and from Moscow.

According to “St. Petersburg Vedomosti”, each waggonage consist of ten cars – two cars of first-class and eight cars of second class. Ticket prices also will vary depending on season, day of week and time of departure of the train. In the case of buying a round trip ticket, passengers will get the tariff, which provides reduction of price for ten per cent.

“Sapsan” is the result of joint work of specialists of the company Siemens AG, representatives of the Russian Railways and specialized structures. In the course of train construction, 20 patents were registered. This train is the fastest in Russia, it can reach speeds of up to 250 km/h and go from Moscow to St. Petersburg for three and a half hours. By the way, it gets the name in honor of the world's fastest bird.

As the newspaper “St. Petersburg Vedomosti”, Sapsan’s cars constitute a single space without platforms (by the way, you should pay attention – the train is strictly nonsmoker). Inside the cars are for 30 centimeters wider than standard. The train is equipped with modern automatic systems and security systems. For example, headlights of Sapsan shine brighter and farther then of ordinary trains.

Increased security measures will be taken for the safety of passengers. According to ITAR-TASS, citing a source in government agencies, protective measures will be applied at all stages of the train. In the settling tank the train will be protected by guards and police. Walk to board the train will be possible only through a special cordon. In addition, Moscow police department on the rail sets up a special company, which will be responsible for the safety of trains and its passengers.

Railways Administration believes that the train “Sapsan” makes a serious competitor to air carriers: no problems with registration, waiting time, transportation, and getting luggage make it faster and more convenient way to travel from one city to another.

As ITAR-TASS outlines, the railways administration plans to put another express to Nizhny Novgorod. The trip will take only 3 hours. All in all express trains will run in 18 directions. Among them, besides Moscow and St. Petersburg’s junctions are Samara, Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk.
