Russia has tightened visa rules for Germany. Now for the Russian visa German citizens should present at the consulate the information on their income over the last month, confirmation from bank account and other documents proving their financial solvency and guarantee their return to homeland.

In response, Germany, who previously required proof of financial solvency of Russian tourists, begin to require a fax from the hotel with confirmation of room payment for the whole stay. Previously, to obtain a visa it was sufficient for Russian citizens to produce a confirmation of hotel booking.

However, the countries continue to discuss at the highest level simplification of visa regime.

In particular, the heads of Russian and German MFA Sergei Lavrov and Guido Westerwelle at a meeting in Moscow have discussed the simplification of visa regime between Russia and the EU, – reports “RIA Novosti”.

“We look for the practical tasks that we have to solve fast enough in our relations with the European Union to establish a visa-free regime”, – noted Sergey Lavrov.

Commenting on the situation with the tightening of visa rules, the Deputy Spokesman of Russian MFA Alexander Sazonov also emphasize at a briefing in Moscow: “We have never been and will not be supporters of tougher visa regulations and the creation of barriers in this area. Instead, we proceed from the necessity and possibilities of further simplification of visa regime”.
