La UE suspendió la preparación del acuerdo sobre la abolición del régimen de visados con Rusia
The Head of the European Commission in Moscow Vygaudas Ušackas noted that the negotiations on visa-free regime between Russia and the EU cannot be resumed before a number of joint steps towards the facilitation will be executed, – reports Interfax.
“Only when we eliminate these shortcomings (in the course of joint steps – Interfax), then we will be ready to restart talks on visa-free regime,” – said the diplomat during a press conference commenting on the possibility of introducing a visa-free regime with the parallel implementation of the necessary steps.
Vygaudas Ušackas noted that “the first report of the European Commission confirms the progress of Russia in implementing a list of common steps. The Russian party has significantly enhanced the security of issued passports, improved the management of migration. We also note the work of anti-terrorism and anti-money laundering”.
However, there are still a number of difficulties, in particular the registration of the name change of Russian citizens: the EU experts say the civil registration in the country is quite difficult to control. Also the diplomat mentioned the problem with the work of border services in the country and a number of other problems.
Commenting on the statement of the EU representative, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the commission claims are not key in abolishing of the visa regime and serve to delay the time of the final decision. So, summing up the EU report, the special envoy Foreign Minister Anvar Azimov noted that “the EU party unfortunately is aimed at shelving the visa-free issue.”
