Summit of “three” was completed in the French resort town of Deauville, – informs the newspaper “Izvestia”. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy took part in the informal tripartite talks.

At the meeting the Heads of States discussed a number of questions including the problems of European security and the abolition of visa regime between Russia and the European Union.

As some publications note, the summit could become historical. In particular, such negotiations can be perceived as an attempt of Europe to mend relations with Russia.

In particular, Angela Merkel outlined the need to stronger relations between Russia and NATO, since both sides are equally interested in this, because all countries face the same threats from the spread of terrorism and control of nuclear weapons.

“We'll talk about how to improve cooperation between Russia and NATO, because the Cold War is long ago and finally finished”, – said Angela Merkel.

By-turn French President Nicolas Sarkozy agreed with this assessment of the situation. “My personal view is that in 10–15 years the picture of the future will be a common economic space between EU and Russia with the abolition of visa regime and the general concept of security” – said the president.

Angela Merkel also noted the need to move toward the abolition of visas by steps.

But analysts consider such a forecast rather pessimistic and predict the creation of a united European visa-free space can already be established in six or seven years. As the negotiations on facilitation of visa regime are going on now.

The summit held the 20 of November in Lisbon between NATO and Russia will show if the taken decisions are reasonable. At a meeting in Deauville Russian President Dmitry Medvedev confirmed his participation in the future summit.
