Las actuaciones del Teatro Bolshoi se mostrarán en línea
One of the most famous performances of the Bolshoi Theatre, the ballet “Le Corsaire” was aired online in hundreds of theaters around the world and on the YouTube channel on March 11.
As noted by general director of the theater Anatoly Iksanov, this idea appeared about ten years ago, when several ballets of the theater were recorded for showing abroad. Then, in March 2010, the direct transmission of the ballet took place in movie theaters of Paris and a number of transmissions in Brazil, Singapore, and Australia, – the agency ITAR-TASS quotes the director.
However, as Anatoly Iksanov noted: “So far, the viewers living in the territory of Russia, had no opportunity to join a large audience of the movies where the direct transmission of the Bolshoi ballet performances took place. Russian movie theaters do not show interest to the project, and none of them is involved in the transmissions.”
And yet, Russian users will be able to see the performance owing to Google Russia and video hosting YouTube. Thus, both foreigners and Russians will be able to see the scene of the legendary theater, closed for six years for reconstruction, and enjoy the ballet presented for the first time by Marius Petipa in 1856 in Paris.
The modern performance is fully maintained in the old style: not only the original choreography of the first performance is preserved, but also the costumes design made in the 19th century and kept in the library of the St. Petersburg Theater.
However, “Le Corsaire” does not end the project of direct transmissions, the program is already scheduled for six months in advance. Viewers from around the world will be able to see “Bright Stream”, “Raymonda”, “Pharaoh's Daughter,” “La Bayadere,” “Romeo and Juliet” and many other great performances of the theater.
