Rusia espera implementar el régimen sin visados con la UE para 2014
The Russian governing body hopes to impose the visa-free regime with the European Union before 2014, when the Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi. This was announced by Anvar Azimov, the Ambassador at Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ambassador noted that “there are no opponents in the EU of the visa-free regime with Russia”.
Also Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, took word on the visa-free regime on Thursday September 27, speaking to reporters after the meeting of the UN Security Council on the Middle East.
The minister noted that at this point the comprehensive list of reciprocal steps is already signed and needs to be implemented before the introduction of the visa-free regime. “There is no reason not to have enough time until the December summit to fulfill all these steps,” – said Lavrov. Thus, it is possible to begin the process of signing an agreement on visa-free regime during the summit.
“We have a corresponding agreement from 2006, now there is a draft, which develops and deepens this agreement, extending the categories of citizens who will be eligible for visa facilitation and visa-free right to travel in Russia and the Schengen area. We are working on it,” – the agency RIA Novosti quotes the minister.
The document on mutual steps was developed by representatives of Russia and the European Union at a summit in December 2011.
