La introducción de una entrada sin visado a las Islas Kuriles del sur para los ciudadanos japoneses
The Russian President Vladimir Putin favours the introduction of a visa-free regime for Japanese citizens visiting the Kuril Islands. According to the President, there are no political restraints precluding the consideration of this issue.
It is also reported that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe advanced the similar initiative at the last meeting held in Lima.
“With respect to the humanitarian aspects, it was the Prime Minister's initiative. He raised this issue at our last meeting in Lima and asked whether we would agree to introduce a visa-free regime and allow Japanese citizens to visit the south Kuril Islands and their home grounds without visas”, – said Putin in an interview with Japanese media.
“I said it is quite possible. There are no political restraints, it is only necessary for both Ministries of Foreign Affairs to settle all technical matters”, – added Vladimir Putin.
It should be noted that Russia is ready to continue the dialogue on the territorial issue.
