En Rusia apareció la primera calle “para no fumadores”
From July 26, Arbat became the first non-smoking street in Moscow, – informs the agency “Interfax”.
“The whole pedestrian street Arbat will be declared smoke-free. It is an initiative of the municipality council of “Arbat” district. They came up with this idea, so in the future it could be supported by other districts of the capital and other cities”, – quote the media the source in the Ministry of Health.
The opening of a smoke-free zone was held in the middle of the street, next to the Vakhtangov Theater. During the ceremony, everyone could exchange their cigarettes for apples. Furthermore, Muscovites and visitors could check the level of pollution of inhaled air and talk to the doctor, as well as measure pressure, height and weight.
The idea to free Arbat from smokers was raised in January 2013. Then the posters were posted across the street, but the ban at the time was out of question.
Any street can be made a non-smoker at the initiative of the district council, following the initiative of the residents. So it is possible that in the future other areas will appear in Moscow.
