El consulado británico en San Petersburgo no estará cerrado hasta el final del WC-2018
According to the British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson, the British consulate in St. Petersburg will continue to work until the end of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
It should be noted that the additional consular personnel from the British Foreign Ministry was sent to Russia and the Russian side provided visas to these employees.
Boris Johnson recalled that the British Consulate will continue its work although the Russian side decided to close it earlier.
“I want to say once again that there is nothing but friendship and admiration between British subjects and the people of Russia, and this friendship allowed us to cooperate with regard to precautionary measures regardless of politics,” he stressed.
The British Foreign Secretary noted that British intelligence officials had repeatedly visited Russia to meet with their Russian counterparts in order to exchange experience and safety techniques when dealing with large masses of people.
“In places where the matches of the English national team will be held, British police and employees of the United Kingdom consulates will be present,” Johnson said.
The decision to close the British consulate in St. Petersburg was made by the Russian side after a scandal involving the poisoning of former GRU officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury.
