El consulado general británico en San Petersburgo estará cerrado
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation reported on the expulsion of 23 employees of the British Embassy in Moscow and the closing of the British Consulate General in St. Petersburg.
“Due to the disparity in the number of consular institutions of the two countries, Russia withdraws its consent to the opening and functioning of the British Consulate General in St. Petersburg. The relevant procedures will be implemented in accordance with the international legal practice,” reports the Ministry.
“The British side is warned that if further unfriendly actions are taken against Russia, the Russian side reserves the right to take other responsive measures,” added at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
It is necessary to mention that closing date of the British Consulate General in St. Petersburg will be determined in accordance with the international law.
It should be recalled that the diplomatic scandal between the countries started after the poisoning of former GRU officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia happened in British Salisbury.
The British Prime Minister Theresa May pinned the blame for poisoning on Russia and announced measures to be taken against Russia.
Russia denies all accusations and recalls that these and other charges will be answered.
