According to the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Grigorij Karasin, issue of visa abolition for Georgian citizens has been postponed indefinitely.

Karasin confirmed that issue of visas abolition for citizens of this country was discussed shortly before anti-Russian speeches in Georgia.

“Yes, indeed, issue of visa abolition was discussed, and in principle we were ready for this. But it didn’t happen, we’ll have to wait until better times,” the Deputy Foreign minister said.

It should be recalled that mass protests in Georgia began on 20 June. Reason for them was incident during the 26th session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy, when State Duma deputy Sergei Gavrilov sat in chair of speaker of the Georgian Parliament, as he led the session.

On 21 June, the Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decree on suspension of air links with Georgia. He also instructed the Russian government to take measures to return citizens of the Russian Federation from this country.

However, it is emphasized that cancellation of air links with Georgia is temporary measure, and in the future Moscow is waiting for the restoration of relations with Tbilisi.
