According to RIA Novosti, the Deputy Head of the Department for Foreign Economic Activity and International Relations of Moscow Anatoly Valetov during a speech at the Russian-Greek tourism forum held in Athens, announced the possibility of introducing a visa-free entry to Russia for foreign tourists arriving to the country for two or three days.

According to Anatoly Valetov, Moscow may join the program “Weekend city” popular now in several countries such as China, where foreign tourists can visit Beijing and Shanghai without a visa as part of a 3-day visit.

The Government of Moscow has already appealed to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a proposal to enter a 3-day visa-free regime in the capital. “As a Department, we are launching initiatives aimed at simplification of the visa regime for tourists. We constantly support these initiatives. I cannot say how quickly our proposal will be considered but it has been submitted anyway”, – said A. Valetov.

Anatoly Valetov also reported that it is easy enough for foreigners to get Russian visas now. Due to well established consular procedures, foreign tourists have fewer and fewer problems with getting Russian visas which in some cases can be issued in 3 days.
